Our research unites the fields of psychology, user experience, human-computer interaction, and educational science to explore how media bias can be communicated and visualized. We conduct studies on how to present bias effectively, testing tools such as bias indicators, news nutrition labels, and LLM explanations. We developed study prototypes for gamified learning tools (News Ninja and Neowzuu) as well as news aggregators (like NewsUnfold) to help users identify media bias. The web application Neowzuu allows people to test their bias detection skills, while the news aggregator and analyzer NewsUnfold 2.0 highlights biased sentences, incorporates multiple studied bias indicators, and provides broken-down bias explanations using LLMs.
Ultimately, our goal is to explore how to effectively present bias to people, educate them about it, and then create and test practical, user-friendly applications that help individuals engage with news more critically and with greater awareness of bias.
