To solve a problem, we have to
understand it first.

Media bias influences nearly every aspect of our lives—from political views and voting behavior to social opinions and the public’s trust in news outlets. The Media Bias Group is committed to addressing this widespread issue by advancing interdisciplinary research that identifies the origins, impact, and manifestations of bias in the media.

Our aim is to develop reliable methodologies and tools to detect bias, raise public awareness, and empower both users and researchers to better understand the media they consume.

Founded
2021

The Media Bias Group was founded by german researcher Dr. Timo Spinde in 2021.

Research
Network

We are an independent research network, fully relying on partnerships, collaborations, and contributions from individuals, corporations, and institutions to drive our mission forward.

Based in
Tokyo

Our team operates across various institutions worldwide, strongly remote, with our main hub being in Tokyo at Echizen-lab, and some of us working from Munich.

Who we are

To drive the mission forward, we connect a team of research experts in their respective fields. We also have a core group of scientists, tackling the problems together full-time.

We are an international network of researchers working on media bias and related research areas. We are always open to new partners or students joining us for a thesis project or Ph.D. in collaboration with any university or chair. You can read more about getting to know us or joining our mission here.
